Xylose dehydration to furfural using niobium doped δ-FeOOH as catalyst

The effect of modification ?-FeOOH with niobium, applied to dehydration reaction xylose, was evaluated by experimental and theoretical methods. data confirmed, namely the characteristic peaks in X-ray diffractometer analysis, that materials were obtained. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis defined percentage Nb as 0 for pure 9.5 wt. % (?-FeOOH/Nb) doped. In relation obtaining furfural, doped material presents a conversion improvement 290 when compared catalyst. Theoretical calculations useful understanding preferential route mechanisms proposed obtained potential energy values. To understand preferred routes, most favorable position xylose initially calculated. From this, conditions favoring furfural formation calculated based on routes values indicated is more likely happen material.
